Wei Lung was an orphan, raised in China by his maternal grand-father, a Taoist monk and village exorcist. Wei Lung was again orphaned when his grand-father was murdered by a local magistrate for failing to “cleanse” the magistrate’s wife whose “possession” rendered her barren.
Wei Lung ran away to the harbors of Hong Kong where he was quickly press-ganged at the age of 10. Forced into hard-labor aboard a ship bound for the north-eastern United States harbors, the ship was was caught up in a terrific storm off the coast of Massachusetts.
Surviving the seas and landfall, Wei Lung quickly took to begging and stealing for survival in a city where he was outcast for being both an unwanted child and foreign. Eventually confrontations with multiple street gangs forced him to seek refuge with the Chinese Triads as a talnted pickpocket and burglar. Considered a man at age 13, Wei Lung was expected to take the life of a rival Triad member but refused. Barely surviving the wrath of his own gang, beaten nearly to death, Wei Lung was found and given refuge by a Jesuit order.
From there, Wei Lung lived among the isolated monks, venturiong forth only to serve the community along with the brothers. During that time, he spent much time in quiet solitute, reading the order’s esoteric texts, learning not only spiritual enlightenments but also knowledge to defeat the supernatural in spiritual warfare. The order not only evangelized through the north-eastern United States but likewise travelled incognito as entertainers to further locate supernatural threats.
